“…if one advances confidently in the direction of his dreams, and endevours to live the life which he has imagined, he will meet with a success unexpected in common hours… In proportion as he simplifies his life, the laws of the universe will appear less complex…” –Henry David Thoreau
Thoreau reminds us that not only must we imagine a future worth living, imaging is not enough. One must work for it. To imagine a life and go to it confidently. The imagined portion of the quote has become cliché in our society. Yet for some of us, myself included, the full idea presented by Thoreau has become a guiding philosophy to living our days on Earth.
While this blog is not a study on Thoreau, it is a reflection of this quote. The main points being:
- imagining the life one wants to live,
- taking action to realize that imagined life and
- simplifying life to that which matters most
